The region




We are located in the beautiful Creuse Valley near the borders of Indre and Haute-Vienne. Within a very short distance you will find breathtaking scenery along the banks of the Creuse, historic towns, cultural sites, castles, ancient churches and fortifications dating back to the Crusader era and even earlier.




The area is also known as the Valley of the Painters in reference to the number of painters who have settled here, including Claude Monet, Armand Guillaumin and Francis Picabia. Musicians and poets have also contributed to the area's fame, including Chopin, George Sand and Maurice Rollinat.

he area is ideal for walking and cycling through beautiful countryside with fields lined with wildflowers, world famous Limousin cattle as well as sheep, goats, ducks, horses and donkeys. As you pass through beautiful woods and along rivers and ponds you will see herons, kingfishers, falcons and many other birds

Further afield, day trips are within reach of Poitiers, Châteauroux, Limoges, Guéret, Aubusson, Bourganeuf, Lac de Vassivière, Valençay and Issoudun.


Specialty stores in local towns and villages offer arts, crafts and antiques at reasonable prices, and there are also regular open-air markets for these items in the larger towns.

The nearby villages of Crozant with its castle ruins and Fresselines made famous by the artist Monet, offer spectacular views of the Creuse and Sedelle rivers. Historic towns and villages with medieval quarters are nearby in Argenton sur Creuse, Gueret, La Souterraine, St Benoit-du-Sault and Gargilesse-Dampierre - a favorite of the writer George Sand.Lake Chambon (or Eguzon) with its safe sandy beaches, fishing, water sports and lakeside restaurants and bars is only 10 minutes away

Fishing

Whether on one of the many ponds, lakes or rivers, you will have the opportunity to fish for pike, zander, carp, tench, trout, roach, barbel, dace, gudgeon and minnows. You can read more about it in this article from Total-Fishing

The Creuse is the ideal terrain for cycling enthusiasts. Spread throughout the department, the Creuse has more than 450 km of marked and safe cycling trails (roads not frequented by motorists).

Lake Eguzon




Just a 10-minute drive away is Lake Eguzon, the largest lake in the region, covering an area of 312 ha and 17 km in length. Here you will find plenty of activities to keep everyone busy, including sailing, windsurfing, pedal boats, water skiing, canoeing, paddle boarding, towed buoys, hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking.You will also find beaches with supervised swimming in July and August at the beach of Chambon with an inflatable water park and catapult.


If water sports seem too much for you to handle, then why not go on a comfortable and relaxing boat ride around the lake, admiring all of the sights along the shoreline.


There's also an open-air sports center in Eguzon with activities like tennis and archery.
